Dental First Aid Tips

For a broken tooth, rinse the part in lukewarm water and bring it with you to our office. Use gauze to control any bleeding and an ice back to address swelling and pain. You can also use an over-the-counter pain reliever.
If you have lost a tooth, be sure to handle it only by the crown and not by the roots. Rinse it with water. Try to gently place it in the socket. If you cannot do that, keep the tooth moist in milk, water, a saline solution or even your own saliva. Call our office right away.
Bring any lost dental work with you to the office. Before your visit, you may be able to temporarily hold the restoration in place with dental cement.
If you develop a toothache, you may be able to solve the problem by gently rinsing, brushing and flossing. An over-the-counter medication can help you address any discomfort.
For problems such as a broken or dislocated jaw or bleeding that cannot be stopped, visit your local emergency room before contacting our office.
